Far from mere metaphor, Bread can hold in memory deep rooted bonds with people, places, experiences, and ways of being. This almost magic transitory capacity of good Bread often works to Craft Connections, and foster Community. Often, among the most deeply etched aspects of this nostalgia infused Being is a sense of place, of Home. I first made this Bread simply because I was curious to bring together this combination of flavors, textures, and processes. Monica’s experience was far more profound, more rooted in place and being than mine. She wrote to share memories of summers spent in Jordan, of spices and flavors, of family and fellowship the experience of this Bread revived: a sense of being warm and safe and connected; a sense of Home. And she shared that, in Arabic, Baladi suggests a sense of Being in Place, of “My Home”. It’s also the name her father lovingly calls her. Monica suggested I name this Bread Baladi because of what it connects. Thank you, friend, and welcome home; a complex Crust sheltering a luscious honey spiced crumb w/ Poppy, Fennel, Anise, Sunflower, Sesame, and Charnuska Seeds
